New build care home for retired priests. The project of modernist design incorporates hi-tech energy-saving initiatives and is designed to greatly exceed normal registration standards in terms of space and facilities.
The build provides for the spiritual and physical needs of the elderly members of the Society of Jesus.
The client brief stipulated that: ‘the sense is strong that this place needs to be attractive, comfortable, well established but not overly lavish or exuberant. It should have an atmosphere of peace and rest and be an easy place for meeting and prayer’.
The house is a striking modern building with many imposing features, most noticeably a lead conical tower rising above the chapel which is situated in the lower ground floor. The finish is light and airy, with glass features, concrete walls and wooden floors. The grounds provide a restful area for residents, staff and visitors and include a moving water feature.
