The Steven Pimlott Education and Rehearsal Building
Chichester Festival Theatre is one of the United Kingdom’s flagship theatres, with a dazzling international reputation for producing a wide range of theatrical productions, from musicals and comedies, to classic drama and innovative new writing.
The project consisted of the demolition of the “Gunters” Restaurant block and the construction within Oaklands Park of a single storey building of 425m2 floor area providing space for Education and Rehearsal facilities.
A unique feature of the building is the emphasis on use of timber for construction and cladding, particularly the structural superstructure that was prefabricated and imported from mainland Europe and erected by the manufacturer within two weeks of delivery.
This is a place where artists are able to work together with the community and provide an active and creative working space for Chichester as well as well used base for the Theatre’s youth work.
