Princess Royal Hospital – One Year On

It has been a year since Baqus completed the redevelopment of the imaging department and install of the new Cat Scan machine at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.

Baqus provided NEC Supervisor Services for the new Imaging Department which included the CT Scanner and X-Ray new installations. Challenges included working in a live A&E ward during the Covid pandemic.

The imaging department improvements were carried out over seven stages so that patient care could continue throughout the project. Dr George Findlay, chief medical officer and deputy chief executive for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) said of the project:

“Redeveloping a department like this while it continues to deliver care is a real achievement.

“Doing so during a pandemic, and finishing the project on time and to budget, is outstanding.

“I commend all the staff involved for their dedication to our patients and their determination to see this project through.

“This really is patient centred planning and care at its best.”

A year on, the redevelopment has allowed both inpatients and outpatients more privacy and dignity with redesigned waiting areas and the new CT Scanner has doubled the capacity for these scans in the department, improving access and reliability for patients.
