BAQUS is Proud to Support the Sea Life Trust on a World-First Initiative
Baqus is proud to be supporting the Sea Life Trust on a world-first initiative: the Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland.
In 2025, our team provided NEC 4 Project Management and Cost Consultancy services for the sanctuary, which features floating pontoons, bespoke netting, and monitoring facilities. The design will create a more natural environment for Little Grey and Little White – two Beluga Whales who travelled 6,000 miles from their previous home in a Shanghai water park via air, land and sea to Vestmannaeyjar, an island just off the south coast of Iceland.
The sanctuary is situated within a 32,000sqm area of Klettsvik Bay, which will deliver significant space for the Belugas to swim, explore and deep dive. During the bay works the whales have been cared for within the Sea Life Trust’s landside pool, close to the bay.
As we near completion of the works, Baqus continues to work closely with the charity to ensure everything is ready for the whales’ move in Spring 2026.
A truly inspiring project that blends marine conservation with innovative engineering.
